Born in 1801 probably in Naples, Seaforth studied at the Royal Academy Schools from 1823 exhibiting every year at the Royal Academy until 1845. Seaforth was a most important artist and recognized as an influence on artists such as Somerscales and de Martino. The National Maritime Museum has two of his paintings. Beautiful, atmospheric and very vivid and realistic this is a wonderful portrait of East Indiamen of the Chinese Coast at the height of the Company influence.
